Calypso is the second ?Ursus Oceanus' or Sea Nymph Bear I have created. She is a bear with more doll like proportions with longer legs and a longer neck than a traditional teddy bear. She is a very detailed piece which took many hours to create. Calypso is made from a beautiful wavy, semi dense, 15mm pile lilac mohair. Being a sea nymph she has a 'fish tail' and 'fins' on her shoulders, wrists, heels, lower legs and her back. These details are all handmade using machine embroidery over lengths of embroidery floss and sheer fabric sandwiched between tulle. The finished fins were then further enhanced with acrylic and fabric paint. Her paw pads are hand painted with a fish scale design using glitter fabric paint in purple shades. Her face and inner ears are also hand painted with ?camouflage? striped design in purple, pink and deep blue shades. Calypso has hand painted 'glitter' eyes with purple suedette upper eyelids and corded lower lid details. She also has long eyelashes to further enhance her femininity. Her nose and mouth are embroidered with a multi shaded embroidery floss in shades of purple and pink. Calypso is native to Amethyst Cove in Nova Scotia. She loves collecting the amethyst from the remote beach which she polishes and keeps in her bag. Her hand dyed jute bag contains 5 polished amethyst pebbles. Calypso wears a handmade beaded tiara and necklace, both of which are removable. Calypso is approximately 16.5" tall, 10" sitting with legs outstretched and around 14" when sitting with legs bent e.g. on a shelf/chair (these measurements are excluding tiara). She is 5-way jointed with a long cotter pin and additional discs in her neck to create the extra length and nut and bolt joints in her arms and legs. She is filled with polyfibre stuffing and is weighted with a bag of steel shot in her tummy. She has a wire armature in her arms and legs and is more lightly stuffed around the knee and elbow position to allow for gentle posing. Please note that although the metal is strong it may not stand up to rough handling. She has my ?Lynton Teddy Bears? fabric label sewn into her back seam and a removable swing ticket. Calypso has been adopted
